On Friday morning, I began thinking about what Devon and I should do for Date Night. I knew I wasn’t going to see him until 6:00 because he had a lot of studying to do and then he was going to take a test from 3:00 to 6:00pm. So. . . I had a lot of time to think.
I was having a rough day, but I tried to think of what Devon would most enjoy after finishing his test. I concluded with a brilliant idea. I decided to rent the Lion King, Devon’s favorite movie, from the library and surprise him.
And so I went to the library after my class, feeling rather pleased, rented the movie and waited for Devon to finish. At 6:17pm, he called. I asked him how the test went and he was rather upset about it. He said it was awful and wasn’t feeling so great. I eagerly responded,
P: “Would you like to watch Lion King?”
D: “What about Singin’ in the Rain?” [my favorite movie]
P: “Well. . . I already borrowed Lion King from the library.”
D: “Guess where I am right now?”
Independently, Devon had decided that it would be great to borrow my favorite movie from the library for date night. It was hilarious. I giggled about it for the rest of the night.
It reminded me of that Christmas short story, “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry. (What do you think?)
