The other day, I was thinking about this mothering, homemaking life of mine and realizing how much I absolutely love it. It’s not just that I love my kids or that I love being a mom, but I also love the creative liberty of motherhood. I love learning on my own schedule–whether it’s learning to sew stuffed animals or knit baby hats or bake sourdough bread. Motherhood, for me, is simultaneously limiting and freeing, which two characteristics, I hear, are the key to creative success.
As mothers, we must somehow square our power with our powerlessness. . . ‘Life,’ as Donna Haraway writes, ‘is a window of vulnerability.’
