I am standing in my kitchen this morning. Light is streaming through our sliding door into the living room and onto my children. Duplos are strewn over the floor. Diagonal light streaks over their faces as they play. Lucy’s face is crusted with snot, evidence of her latest bout of teething. Both kids are in fleecy pajamas: Arthur in navy blue with brightly colored robots and Lucy in flamboyantly colored giraffe print. Arthur and Lucy play close together, never separating more than a couple of feet. I feel so much joy watching them, my beautiful children and hearing their little noises (Arthur’s chatter, Lucy’s babble, and their blended laughter). This is what it is all about. This moment. This little slice of harmony. This is joy.
